secret hoard how to play

Think you have what it takes to stash the most prized (and peculiar) collection in the realm? Learn how to hoard wisely, play strategically, and outwit your rivals in Secret Hoard.

Game Setup

  1. Shuffle the main deck.

  2. Deal 3 cards to each player.

  3. Turn over the top 3 cards of the main deck to start the discard pile.

  4. Randomly choose a player to go first.

Taking a Turn

Each player’s Turn follows five simple steps:

1. Draw
Choose two cards in one of these combinations:

  • The top 2 cards from the main deck,

  • The top 2 cards from the discard pile,

  • OR 1 card from each (main deck + discard pile).

2. Play a Card
Choose 1 card from your hand and play it. Show it off and perform its ability. May chaos (or cleverness) ensue.

3. [Optional] Add to Your Hoard
Tuck 1 card face-down into your “Secret Hoard” pile.
Important:

  • You can only add 1 card per turn.

  • Once in the hoard, cards stay secret and untouched—no peeking, swapping, or rearranging (except in step 4).

4. [Optional] Swap with Your Hoard
You may swap 1 card from your hand with 1 card in your hoard. Choose wisely.

5. Discard
End your turn by discarding the card you played in Step 2.

Winning the Game

The game ends immediately when, before discarding, a player reveals one of the following:

  • A complete item set from their Secret Hoard (check the card reference for what counts as a set),
    OR

  • A 12-card single-color collection between their Secret Hoard and Hand.

Declare your victory. Gloat (tastefully). Shuffle and rematch.
